-
Download the moodtheme you want to use, and unzip the files.
-
Upload it to the host of your choice. Photobucket is a good option if you don’t have a domain of your own.
-
Find the url of the directory that you’ve uploaded your moodtheme to. In Photobucket this might be something like:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v319/yurami/mood/
If you have your own domain, it will probably look something like:
http://www.yurami.net/moodtheme/
- Next, open up the text file that came with your moodtheme called ‘adminconsolecodes.txt‘. Open this file in notepad.
(Note: If you’re not using one of my moodthemes, it might not have come with this file. In that case, just download this one: FILE. (Right-click on the link and save-as.)
- Before you edit the file, it should look something like this:

- Now we go back and grab that url we got in Step 3, the one to the directory we uploaded our moodtheme to. In notepad, go to Edit > Replace….
Copy the example url used in the file. In mine it’s: http://www.hosting.com/
Put this url in the ‘Find what:‘ section.
- Take the url to the directory your images are uploaded to, and place it in the ‘Replace with:‘ section. In my example I’m using:
http://www.yurami.net/moodtheme/

- Click the ‘Replace All‘ button. Your file should look something like this now:

- You may also need to change the file extentions or the image dimensions to get your moodtheme to work. Again, it’s a simple matter of using ‘Edit > Replace…‘.
To change the file extension:

To change the image dimensions:

- And finally, we go back to Livejournal.
Specifically, we’ll be using the Admin Console. It’s not nearly as confusing as it looks, I promise!
- Before we can paste in the codes for our moodtheme, we need to create it. Copy the following, and replace the information in quotes with your own information:
moodtheme_create "Title of Theme" "Short Description of Theme" - Paste your modified information into the text box on the Admin Console, and click execute.

- Now, at the top of the Admin Console it should look like this:

-
See that text in green? Yeah, copy the number - that’s your moodtheme’s id - and go back to your admin console text file.
- We’re going to be using ‘Edit > Replace…‘, this time to replace the example moodtheme id with the real one. In my text file, the example id is ‘1234‘.

Click ‘Replace All‘.
- When that’s done, right-click in your text file, select all, and copy. Paste the text into the Admin Console and click execute!

- Assuming you’ve followed all the directions correctly, you should have a fully-functional moodtheme now! Just go to your Custom Moodtheme Editor and switch to your new moodtheme.
